de.MO is an award-winning multidisciplinary design firm that produces a diversity of projects— books, web sites, corporate identity and branding, packaging, brochures, DVDs— representing a wide range of international clients and businesses.
de.MO stands for Design Method of Operation and the name itself represents the firm’s ideology and its desire to create and explore new ways of working beyond the traditional.
Founded in 1997— and since 2002, housed in a 19th-century barn in Millbrook, New York— de.MO is headed by Giorgio Baravalle and made up of a small team of young designers.
On the design side, de.MO’s clients have included United Colors of Benetton, United Nations, European Soccer League, Mondadori, and VII. Current clients include Contact Press Images, Tufts University, NiCE Ltd., Studio Museum in Harlem, Gray Kunz Restaurants, The Manhattan Short Film Festival, Aperture, Electa/Mondadori, SBK Pictures and Yves Saint Laurent.
Prior to founding his own firm, Giorgio collaborated with different design offices in America and Europe. Most notably he worked with Tamotsu Yagi Design in San Francisco developing the Tribù perfume line for the United Colors of Benetton, which earned him two Clio Awards, the highest achievement honoring advertising and design excellence worldwide. Since its inception de.MO received awards from the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the Art Directors Club of New York, the Type Directors Club, ID Magazine, Communication Arts, STEP Magazine, Print Magazine and Coupe Magazine, and has been featured in DWELL, STEP Magazine, ID Magazine.
